RESEARCH -
AESTHETICS IN THE FAMILIAR
The project started by investigating whether conventional joint-principles could be transferred in recycled plastic or not, in order to examine what happens when something so traditional and familiar is replaced by a different material.
CONCEPTS -
SLATS
The concepts behind RPAV1 was developed as an extension of investigating slats as a principle, and how these components could be turned and used in different ways. The design emphasizes a rational approach to form, as well as visual graphical play and rythm.
PRODUCTION -
A PRIMITIVE BUT EFFECTIVE PROCESS
The casting process is relatively easy and may be considered a bit primitive. Plastic granules are poured into a mold, heated and several layers are added to create thickness. Finally, a lid closes the mold, before the material cools down.
Out of this molding process comes plastic elements, defined by the dimensions of the mold. The production method is easily adjustable and accessible, which requires neither large financial expenses nor advanced technology.
