BACKGROUND
CURATO was created as a result of working with design and production of pressed shell-constructions in hemp.
The main focus was on utilizing the materials properties in a double-curved form and investigate how it could cope with great stress.
MATERIAL PROPERTIES
Initially being soft and flexible, the material is pressed and transformed into a hard shell, where double-curved surfaces provide a complex and strong construction.
DESIGN
CURATO’s form offers an embracing space. It’s natural color and soft tactility provides a warm feeling in contrast to its hard, dark body.
Inspired by a lid, the original idea was about working with a seat that could support itself without any support underneath.
Top and body are united i a hidden encounter underneath the seat, held up by a steel frame. Creating a balance where both components are complementary.
CURATO is a counter stool, inspired by experiments with hemp, and a result of using its inherent properties efficient.
