BACKGROUND
“How can we design a site-specific bench for Bispebjerg Crematorium, a place for contemplation?”
This project explores the potential of a natural material in design and how extruded clay can be used and implemented in outdoor furniture design. Bispebjerg Crematorium Bench tries to show how we can challenge the usage of the traditional brick material.

CHOICE OF MATERIAL
CLAY
Clay is an ancient building material with clear references to sacral applications.
It is a natual extension of the Crematorium.
When creating a site-specific outdoor furniture for this place, it was an obvious choise. It portrays a clear dialogue witg the existential, the human and the earthly.
TECHNIQUE
EXTRUDED
Enables the creation of hollow elements in construction, while still maintaining structural properties.
Potential to challenge the traditional use of square bricks with visual lightness.

CONCEPT AND FORM
Using the portal as an abstract symbol of the “bridge” between life and death.
Refers to the building’s brutalist design language.
Reflects the vertical architectual elements.
